Undergraduates can also enroll in all-online classes, in which the majority of communications and school works are executed via the Internet. Online programs allow learners to work asynchronously. It means that they can manage with their term paper and coursework at the chosen place and time. Such aspect is perfect for single parents or working undergraduates who are in need of a flexible schedule. Nevertheless, learners who aim to be determined in their actions could understand that they quickly fall behind.
Still, a video conversation cannot replace the students' experience of face-to-face cooperation and teamwork used in traditional education. Undergraduates who succeed in a quick exchange of thoughts and concepts between professors and themselves may reveal that they prefer the classroom environment to online classes. From the other side, students who feel concerned about speaking in front of the whole class will enjoy spending time while reflecting their responses proposed by online classes. For the majority of learners, social interaction is a crucial aspect of the entire college career. If one is planning to meet new people and expand their professional and social connections, it is essential to take a few classes in college/university.
However, online classes are not completely devoid of interaction. A lot of online courses are taken by individuals from many countries at the same time, proposing a possibility to make proper connections with individuals whom one would never meet in college/university. Undoubtedly, the basic reason why a student is in class is to learn, develop new skills, and get experience. For some undergraduates, it could be quite hard to implement it without the direct, face-to-face input of tutor. Today, communicative and informative technologies offer considerable opportunities for both undergraduates and their tutors. A shift towards the innovative use of online education may decrease the relative cost of employing teachers. The modern society will observe the essential growth of online instructors in the next few decades (Goodyear et al. 66). While online teaching brings vast opportunities to expand the educational process beyond the traditional face-to-face teaching, it also leads to the new challenges for faculty and its specialists responsible for the creation and delivery of higher education courses and programs offered in an online sphere (Kurtz et al. 2).
Due to the transition from traditional face-to-face teaching towards technology, online teaching originated a crucial shift while challenging the roles and prospects of both students and tutors. For some teachers, when they decide to change their workplace, they may feel their identities are under threat. The majority of them find their professional recognition being tied to their face-to-face experience where they had a high level of mastery (Redmond 1050).
Teaching in an online medium comprises the same issues detected in the traditional classroom. Inspectors should be able to adapt the curriculum and content area in an efficient way. Over the past decade, technology has significantly developed and thus generated new delivery methods that can greatly improve learning for undergraduates. Unlike traditional approaches, online experience requires time for tutors to be completely ready for the latest progress in the electronic sphere moving beyond PowerPoint and word processors. Like the traditional classrooms, lesson plans are quite critical. Online teaching requires tutors not only to go beyond the traditional knowledge of their subjects, but to organize information, develop credible resources, and use new technologies to meet the students' demands and finally promote efficient education for them. One can think over the question of whether distant learning is worse, better, or as good as the traditional method of teaching. Some disputes have shown that distance education is good enough to deserve a university degree. Still, undergraduates may learn far too little when there is no personal presence of a tutor since a learner has more to learn from him or her than the texts. Some researchers observe traditional classes as teacher-centered, static, and unchangeable. What works for the tutors in the traditional face-to-face classroom is not so efficient and productive in the online sphere.
There are more varieties between traditional and online education besides keyboards. Undergraduates, who participate in distant learning, will be able to practice different scores, lifestyle, and various methods than those, who are enrolled in the institution's education. The traditional method of desks, books, and lectures may not always be the prime learning environment for each student. Traditional learners may need to sit down at the desks when they find out that another remarkable difference between two main educational formats is higher grades. Some researches have demonstrated that undergraduates perform better in an online learning condition comparing with individuals, who get traditional instructions.
A significant gap between online and traditional education could be bridged with currency. The cost of training at the online educational institution may be too big for some learners. An online college/university does not pay for maintaining a huge campus with the classrooms and is able to pass the savings onto all the students. With many similarities between regular classes and online courses, the major choice depends on the undergraduates who select courses which suit them best. As one decides which educational environment is right for them, it is essential to take into consideration these varieties.
